For many of those in the know, Sheffield is football. It’s home to the world’s oldest club. The Sheffield Rules played a huge role in shaping the modern game.
This exhibition, and the accompanying book of photo essays, profiles some of Sheffield football’s characters, from grassroots teams to coaches and obsessive fans. They are the passionate and (sometimes) eccentric people who keep football alive.
Eleven is the Sheffield design consultancy behind the popular Our Favourite Places culture guides. Dr David Forrest is a writer and academic. His main area of research is British social realist cinema. Gemma Thorpe’s photographs have been exhibited in China, Spain, Germany and Russia. She specialises in documentary work on issues related to identity and belonging.
