Our DVDs and hard drives won’t last forever. Or even for as long as a reel of celluloid film. As we live through a period of rapid technological change, how can we make sure our memories are preserved for future generations?
This thought provoking installation showcases rare pieces from the University’s special collections archive, alongside work by some of Sheffield’s first film pioneers. The idea is to start an important conversation about the preservation of digital records.
The project has been developed in collaboration with Paul Carruthers, an award-winning artist and designer with over 20 years experience in lighting, furniture design and manufacturing.
The University Library Special Collections and Archives Division is home to the Special Collections Department and the National Fairground Archive, a unique, internationally renowned resource for research in popular culture.
