Space for Sharing project

Looking back: Space for Sharing

The project was a collaboration between Professor Peter Bath from the Information School, Dr Melanie Lovatt from Sociological Studies and theatre company Dead Earnest. The aim was to show the public how people with life-threatening illnesses share information, experiences and emotions in the virtual world.

Professor Bath and Dr Lovatt worked with Dead Earnest to produce a play based on the real experiences of women living with breast cancer who use the web to share information and experiences about their illness.

The play was performed on Saturday 24 September in the spiegeltent on Barker’s Pool for Festival of the Mind. The performance was followed by an open discussion, led by the researchers who collected the stories.

“I found this play very moving and a fantastic way to represent this research to a wider audience. Very well staged and characters felt well-developed, really good way of addressing various issues relating to illness and online sharing.” Audience member
